Crux is a dire wolf bounty hunter that is currently on contract with the Captain of the Guards, Ran, in the visual novel GameOver. Quiet and reserved for most, he is more vocal and enthusiastic once he gets to know you, but remains extremely controlling regardless. Crux likes to keep his personal interests private and will take lethal action if necessary to keep it that way. He has two Bad Ends to discover.

Background

Originally from the capital city, he applied for and was vetted by the Baroness for his usefulness in dealing with the situation in the town.

Questlines

Only appearing occasionally in the Town Center, you quickly recognize Crux as a bounty hunter that frequents the wanted persons boards in the town. Though you haven't noticed any recently, so it's surprising he would be hanging around here. Upon being questioned, he informs you about the contract he's made with the town to deal with any potential enemy spill-off from the mercenary action in the northern forest. He notes that, from his intuitions, he feels like the monsters close by to the town aren't from that conflict, however, as if they're being generated instead by something nearby. A bit bored at the current state of the town, though surprised at how quickly it's grown, he says the two of you should hang out more to pass the time and have a lot of alcohol involved.

Once you've been to the gym and met Vic, he takes you there to work out for a time. He'd love to go out drinking with you, but he has to wait to see if the Baroness calls for him, though he says he looks forward to drinking and doing some more intimate stuff with you if you want. He wants to make sure you hang out first though, as he doesn't want to scare you off with how kinky he can be. A trip around the Lumberjack Hut has Crux mention the Secret Garden made by the old town alchemist that can supposedly only be accessed at night. He suggests the two of you go exploring sometime.

Another trip around the town has him discussing the Blacksmith shop and his desire to get new weapons, but being unsure of the quality of Vince's work due to them being order only. He also thinks the fox must be pretty kinky with the kind of loner he is and suggests the two of you talk with him if you run into him at the bar. Though you'd best keep yourself in check while hanging out with the dire wolf or you might find yourself back in his tavern room. And since the bounty hunter has a reputation to maintain and he doesn't want you blabbing about his activities in private, he decides you need to stay with him permanently and he'll keep you tied up and out of harm while he's out working.

After unlocking Foraging to find ingredients for Reynard to cook, you can ask Crux to take you and he says he'll give you the friend discount and only charge you ten coins each trip. The trek for ingredients has Crux do the edgy walk behind tree disappearance act on you while you decide between some peppers or potatoes. Nothing much out of the ordinary happens otherwise. Though if you've experienced an alternate history as Crux's slave, he might get briefly handsy with you while foraging. After this hand encounter and once you've received approval by Ran to go on patrol with the guards and you've received Varok's mark of mental protection, Crux will inform you that he's been ordered to scout around the town perimeter and won't be available as much afterwards. He suggests, however, since you've received approval for patrolling, that you join in, but it will take up the whole day if you do.

During a trip to receive a report from Shlar, Crux talks with you about goings-on and how when he first heard about the town's predicament, the forest fighting had been south of the town. But now it's in the north and he is needed to inspect whether the forest life was impacted in the southern region. He also notes that he usually works alone, which had been annoying Captain Ran, but had accepted when it was offered for you to accompany him. But he doesn't understand why he accepted and why he trusts you so much when you've only be talking in town. He checked with various magic individuals and confirmed there's no spells manipulating him and while he's normally get rid of you since these situations inevitably lead to some plot, he is disinclined to do so with you. But he's been stalking you instead to see if you're up to something, but you haven't been doing anything suspicious other than befriending people. These feelings he has for you are something he's only felt once before and you haven't done enough to deserve them. So he informs you that he'll keep observing and, if he finds any reason to doubt you, he'll take you out. Despite this, you find that you aren't worried and feel the same strange feelings for him that you can't explain.

Your trapping and inspection of the animals in the forest doesn't come up with much other than that those farther away from the mist barrier seem to be stronger with more muscle than their counterparts out in the demonic wilds. You also find that the vegetation is less dense the closer you get to the barrier and there appears to be more marks and damage to the flora away from the barrier, despite there being no fighting in this area anymore. Crux suggests that nightly patrols might be needed to figure out what's going on. For all of these forest patrols, Crux takes advantage of you afterwards, considering you a "little bird" he wants to control. But you should keep up your stamina under his ministrations or you might find yourself his well-regarded partner during your later adventuring activities. Doesn't stop him from bringing out the rope though, especially in risky semi-public activities.
